Nefeli Chrysa Avgeris (1993) is a video artist and filmmaker based in Switzerland. Raised in Basel with a Greek father and a mother of Dutch and Danish descent, her diverse cultural background deeply informs her artistic practice.
Avgeris uses film and poetic texts to explore the subjective experience of interpersonal relationships in contemporary society, addressing themes of alienation, isolation, and identity. Her work critically examines the complexities of gender and its role in shaping and perceiving identities. By incorporating elements of dreams and mythology, she seeks to go beyond the surface of reality, uncovering the subtle and often concealed aspects of human experience.
She studied experimental, essayistic, and documentary filmmaking at the Lucerne School of Art and Design, graduating as a director in 2017. Afterward, she worked as an independent filmmaker. Between 2021 and 2023, Avgeris completed her Master's in Fine Arts at the Institute of Art, Gender, and Nature in Basel.
Her work has recently been showcased at prestigious venues and events, including the Art Basel Film Sector, Raindance Film Festival in London, ECU Film Festival in Paris, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Kunsthaus Baselland, and I Never Read, Art Book Fair Basel.
In 2023, she founded her independent film production company, STUDIO MÀTI GmbH. This production house is dedicated to experimental filmmaking, boldly embracing unconventional narrative forms.
